Ashton was your all American twink model with a smooth, toned body and an oh so cute face. But there is some controversy associated with this guy and I wanted to get to the bottom of it to see what happened to end his blossoming porn career.

Before we look at that, here is some background: Ashton Ryan is from the Windy City, Chicago, Illinois and started his porn career in 1999 as an exclusive model with Junior Studios. This movie was called The American Way and was directed by Kevin Clarke and it was the film that launched his career. The interesting fact about this particular title is that Ashton made his debut performance with his real life partner, Christian Taylor. He has also appeared in many other twink movies, mainly with other guys of the same age and body type. For example, after the success of The American Way came two sequels, in 2000 and 2003, (same studio, same director). The American Way part 3 won the GayVN award for ‘best specialty release’ the specialty being the 18 to 23 model age range that Ashton fitted in to. As if that wasn’t enough Ashton was also nominated for a 2000 GayVN award for his performance in The Heartland. Though he did take a break in his career for a while he came back in 2005 and now appears in live sex shows on line.

So what is that controversy I mentioned? What happened to bring this rising star crashing down to earth? And is there any truth behind it all? During my online search for information about Ashton I came across a startling question: Is Ashton Ryan dead? Intrigued as to why someone would be asking this I delved a little deeper and discovered that there certainly was a controversy about this handsome young guy. It seems that Ashton could be HIV+ but kept that information to himself, therefore he was accused of infecting fellow actors for five years while making his movies. This news didn’t break until 2007 and many people were dismayed that he had kept such a thing quiet. He finally came clean in an interview with Jason Sechrest in January of that year and this put an end to his porn career. So he is not dead but his porn work is, yet he continues to appear in live shows, apparently… at least while these rumors are going around.

Checking his MySpace blog I found the last entry was dated 2006, though he is still checking in and using the site. So it seems the trail has gone cold and all we are left with are the movies he made. I found seven listed at my favorite DVD store, including the ones I mentioned above and yes, they are all twink flicks. There is a long list of co-stars including Christian Taylor and Chase Carter and, as you’d expect from this kind of genre, there is loads of ‘first experience’ content, love lust and hot, hot sex. So, Ashton Ryan: a handsome porn star who fell from grace but who is still working despite his possible HIV status. You may be uncomfortable with that but remember that his work is top quality and, if you can get over the controversy (which may be speculation but which does ring true) you will enjoy what you see. You just may not see him in many bareback videos until this controversy is settled.
